“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…” Acts 1:8

What Power? Our power? Power we can conjure up? Using our power against people we don’t agree with? Our human power that can intimate, shame bully, and riot?

No!

Power from on High. Like 2000 years ago when a group of frightened disciples of Jesus- many of us are frightened now- were huddling in a room, afraid, maybe angry, helpless, and intimidated.

This Pentecost is not so unlike the Pentecost that happened after Jesus was crucified and resurrected. As parents and grandparents, we can strengthen ourselves with that thought, and strengthen the young ones who are looking on at all the chaos today with wide eyes.

There was chaos in those days too. And danger. But what happened? HE sent His Spirit and brought something new to strengthen those who believed in Him. Not a physical body, but FIRE, SOUND AND WORDS.

The fire and sound got everyone’s attention, but the Words reached the crowd that had gathered.
The crowd that was in an uproar. We see it in Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Washington, DC. and other cities right now.

Everyone is bringing their own culture, trying to get their voices heard. But the Words that were spoken then spoke to them where they hurt, where they came from. Oh, that the Spirit and words would speak to the hurting now!
I pray for an outpouring again.

Come, Holy Spirit, we need you!
